Melina Macchia is a Partner at Schofield Macchia and Associates. She is a fierce litigator who brings a relentless, and fresh energy to the courtroom, and with her clients. She is well-versed in the law and has been practicing exclusively in criminal law since 2013.
Ms. Macchia obtained her undergraduate degree from York University in Psychology with a certificate in Business Fundamentals. She attended the University of Windsor, and the University of Detroit Mercy law schools, where she obtained an American and Canadian law degree concurrently. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2013, and has been practicing with Kim Schofield since 2014.
Ms. Macchia has always immersed herself into criminal law, and has been conducting criminal trials since second year law school. Since that time, she has acted at all levels of Court, including the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice, and the Ontario Court of Appeal. She has defended clients on a wide range of matters, both with Ms. Schofield, and on her own.
Ms. Macchia understands the level of time, commitment and dedication it takes to win cases, and brings a distinct approach to every case. She is well-versed in Charter based litigation, and has acted on a number of large projects which have resulted in either acquittals or stays of proceedings.
In addition to her busy defence practice, she also frequently speaks as a lecturer for various Professional Development Programs with Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.
